SCGA Team Play

One of the most popular SCGA programs, SCGA Team Play began in 1900 and has grown to include more than 230 clubs and 8,000 participants each year. This competition is open only to regular member clubs maintaining at least one 18-hole golf course of at least 5,000 yards in length. Participating clubs may enter one 16-man team in a Thursday league, a Saturday league, or both, for each qualifying course they maintain. Clubs are arranged in groups of four, and their respective 16-man teams play a series of six home and away matches within their assigned group. All competition includes both single and four-ball match play. Group winners then meet in single elimination play-offs, culminating in an 18-hole championship.

The Mission Trails Men's Golf Club sponsors both a Thursday and Saturday team.  As a member of the Men's Club you may play on any one of the teams but not both.  The qualification standards to play in team matches are as follows:
    • A player must be an amateur in good standing and must have an established index with the club he wishes to represent as of January 1, 2011 through the 2011 Team Play Season. Any member affiliated with the club after January 1, 2010 is not eligible to compete in 2011.
    • All players must be at least 21 years of age prior to the start of a match.
    • Players must have an active established Low Handicap Index (LHI) in order to participate in Team Play. A player must have 20 actual rounds recorded in his file prior to the revision date in order to establish an LHI. Players whose files are not reflective of recent activity will be subject to review by the Team Play Committee.  As an additional requirement for eligibility during the 2011 Team Play Season, players must have at least 20 scores posted from 2010. Players who have been unable to meet this requirement due to injury or another legitimate reason will be reviewed on a case‐by‐case basis.
    • Maximum Low Handicap Index (LHI): 18.4.  Individuals with an LHI greater than 18.4 will not be able to participate in Team Play.  If the LHI of such an individual is reduced to 18.4 or lower during the season, he does become eligible to participate as long as he meets all other requirements.  A player may not play down to a lower index to become eligible for Team Play.
    • Players may compete for one Thursday Team and one Saturday Team during the 2011 Team Play Season, provided that the player meets the requirements of Team Play for both clubs. However, players may not compete for the same club on Thursday and Saturday.

Additional information about this years' teams and signup sheets will be forthcoming in the coming weeks.  Be sure to check the Men's Club Bulletin Board.
This year's team captains are Thursday, Jim Southard and Saturday, Greg Donaldson.
